LIMELIGHT FACIAL

In Queensland we know how to make the most of our beautiful subtropical climate, but our outdoorsy lifestyle can make it hard to escape the sun and its nasty effects. Sun exposure can cause our skin to age prematurely and appear spotted, red and blotchy.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?

The Limelight Facial is ideal for any part of your body where sun exposure has left the skin with red or brown discoloration. The face, neck, décolletage, arms and hands are the most popular areas to be treated. Light brown spots, which were previously difficult to treat, also respond very well to treatment.

HOW DOES THE LIMELIGHT FACIAL WORK?

The Limelight Facial uses Intense Pulsed Light technology (sometimes referred to as IPL) to selectively treat redness or pigmentation while reducing the appearance of sun damage. Pulses of light are delivered with multi-wavelength technology and any abnormal colour within the skin (e.g. dark or red pigment) absorbs this light energy. The heating of the pigmented brown or red cells causes the therapeutic effect, improving the skin’s texture and tone simultaneously.

HOW LONG DOES A TREATMENT TAKE?

Treatment time depends on the area of the body being treated. However, most treatments will take less than an hour.

WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT FEEL LIKE?

When each pulse of light is delivered, you can experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. A cool gel is applied to the treatment area before your Limelight Facial for additional comfort. Anaesthetic or pain medicine is typically not required.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Often clients will see a dramatic improvement after just one treatment, however three treatments are usually recommended for optimal results. Additional treatments may be recommended, especially for excessively sun damaged skin.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT BEFORE THE TREATMENT?

There is no need for any gel, anaesthetic creams or ice packs prior to your Limelight Facial. Before treatment your Artisan clinician will cleanse your skin to remove any traces of moisturiser or make-up. Male patients should also keep in mind that they will need to be cleanly shaven prior to treatment.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER TREATMENT?

Immediately following treatment, you may feel warm or slightly sunburnt, your skin may appear a little red and the treatment area may be mildly swollen. These side effects typically dissipate after a few hours. Make-up can be applied to cover the redness.

Over the next few days following treatment brown spots may continue to darken as the pigment in your skin starts to lift. Pigmented spots may appear crusty or flaky and must be left to come away naturally.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Within one to three weeks, depending on the area treated, the darkened spots will fall away as dead skin cells are turned over in their natural process. Diffuse redness or telangiectasia will decrease and mottled complexions will improve over the next two weeks.

WILL THE SPOTS AND REDNESS REAPPEAR OVER TIME?

New brown spots, telangiectasia and diffuse redness may appear with new sun damage; however they too can be treated. Remember to always apply broad-spectrum sunscreen when outdoors (we recommend DMK Soleil Defence 50+) to minimize sun damage and the appearance of new spots and diffuse redness. Rosacea is chronic and cannot be “cured” with any laser or light therapy, however its appearance can be improved and your results can be maintained with periodic treatments, as prescribed by your Artisan clinician.
