What can laser vein removal treat?

Artisan’s Laser Vein Removal treatment can remove unsightly veins from all parts of the body. Knotty varicose veins are not good candidates. Generally, laser vein removal results in a reduction in colour, texture and size of the following veins, capillaries and vascular lesions:

  • Telangiectasia
  • Facial veins (red and blue)
  • Cherry angioma
  • Spider veins (spider angiomas)
  • Haemangioma
  • Vascular lesions (lentigines, keratoses,  freckles, dermatosis papulosis nigra)
  • Burst capillaries on your nose, face or chest
  • Poikiloderma (sundamage to the neck, décolleté, and chest)

A careful evaluation with your Artisan laser technician will help you determine which vessels can be treated and the best course of treatment.

What areas can be treated?

Veins are common around the nose, cheeks, décolletage and legs, however you might find them in other areas too. A careful evaluation in a complimentary consultation with your Artisan laser technician will help you determine which vessels can be treated and the best course of treatment.

How does laser vein removal work?

Artisan’s laser for vein removal delivers pulses of light energy which cause the blood within each vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel.  Blood flow is then redirected to veins deeper below the skins surface, where they are not visible.

Artisan’s Laser features a unique design and long wavelength that allows treatment of many skin tones. Your Artisan clinician will advise you if Laser Vein Therapy is right for you.

How long does the treatment take?

Treatment time depends on the size of the area being treated, however, most treatments take half an hour or less.

What happens during treatment & what does it feel like?

Before treatment, your Artisan clinician will remove any makeup or moisturisers from the treatment area, and in some cases you will be required to shave the area to be treated. A cool gel will then be applied to the treatment area for additional comfort. In a reclined position on the treatment bed your laser clinician will use the laser handpiece to direct a beam of laser light to the treatment area. The handpiece has a cooling tip to reduce any discomfort. Most patients experience a quick stinging sensation as each pulse of energy is delivered through the handpiece, though no local anaesthesia or pain medication is required. Following the treatment, the discomfort is minimal to non-existent.

What happens after the treatment?

There is no downtime required for Laser Vein Removal at Artisan. However, following your treatment some redness, bruising or local swelling may occur in the treated area. These effects are normal and typically last for less than 24 hours. When larger veins are treated, a tan or brownish pigment may persist for a few weeks or months following treatment.

It is important to stay out of the sun during your healing process and recommend that you use DMK Soleil Defence 50+ sunblock. Consult with your Artisan laser technician for complete information about the benefits and risks of treatment.

Is laser vein removal safe?

Artisan’s Laser Vein Removal technology is very safe and effective and complications are rare. Redness of the treated area can occur as well as local swelling and tenderness, although these side effects are normal and usually subside within 24 hours.

At Artisan your treatment is only ever performed by fully qualified and highly experienced laser technicians who are fully licensed with Queensland Health. Our lasers are regularly audited and Queensland Health have given their approval with the yellow Certificate of Compliance sticker which is displayed in our laser treatment room.

Before you go anywhere for a Laser treatment be sure to ask to see the practice’s laser licence and yellow compliance sticker so that you know you are receiving treatment from a certified clinic. It is important to choose a Laser Clinic that upholds itself to the highest standards and offers the experience required to minimise the possibility of complications arising.

When will I see results?

Most patients find that the majority of the treated veins have shown significant improvement within two to six weeks of treatment. However, your final results may not be apparent for several months.

How long do vein treatment results last?

The veins that have been treated will not return. Over time it is possible for new veins to appear but these can also be removed with Laser Vein Removal.

How many treatments will I require?

The number of treatments depends on various factors, including the size, thickness and colour of the vein or vascular lesion. Superficial vascular lesions are usually easiest to treat; some patients can see significant improvement after just one treatment.

Your Artisan clinician will advise you on the best course of action, but many physicians and patients prefer Laser Vein Removal because there are no painful injections.
